YOUR NEXT STEP

Where are you in the search?

01 / FOUR STARTING POINTS

Start with an ERP appointment.

Bring a target role, your current résumé and questions about the local search. Ask about résumé review, interview preparation and current hiring resources.

Start here: the three fastest paths

Local help: Fort Gordon’s Employment Readiness Program offers employment support. Call 706-791-3579. The official contact page lists the ACS Command Support Center, Building 35200, 271 Heritage Park Lane. Confirm appointments before visiting.

Portable search: use SpouseWorks for career support and the Military Spouse Employment Partnership. Employer participation is a useful starting point; it does not guarantee a role, remote permission or selection.

Federal search: start with the USAJOBS military spouse hiring path. Check both your eligibility and the qualifications in the actual announcement.

02

MSEP: jobs from employers who signed up for this

The Military Spouse Employment Partnership connects spouses with participating employers. Start through Military OneSource’s SpouseWorks resource for the current portal and career support.

Search for a specific skill or role, then check the location and employment type. Save the employer’s original announcement and apply through its official process. A partner employer may have onsite jobs, remote jobs, or both. Ask whether your next state or an overseas move would be permitted.

For coaching, call Military OneSource, 800-342-9647. Ask for spouse career coaching, a résumé review and a plan for the credentials your target role needs.

03

Hiring events: what is actually scheduled

DAV’s official November 2026 calendar lists a Virtual (National) Job Fair on November 24, 2026, checked October 25. Confirm registration, time zone and attendance instructions with the organizer before planning around it. This page does not supply an unverified event time or claim this is the next event across every organizer.

DAV’s hiring-fair program connects veterans and spouses with employers through RecruitMilitary. Also check Hiring Our Heroes and the local ERP page for current opportunities. Event listings change; there is no assumed recurring Fort Gordon date here.

Before an event, identify three relevant employers, tailor your résumé and prepare a short introduction. Ask about actual roles, location restrictions, shift hours and the next application step. Follow up through the employer’s official hiring channel.

04

Federal jobs on post: USAJOBS, done right

Hiring eligibility and preference are different. The military spouse noncompetitive appointing authority can allow eligible spouses to be considered without the usual competitive process. It does not guarantee selection or entitlement to an appointment. See OPM’s explanation and the USAJOBS spouse pathway.

DoD military spouse preference and NAF spouse preference follow their own rules. Do not treat every federal vacancy as a preference position. Read “Who may apply,” qualifications, required documents and the agency contact in each announcement. Ask HR which authority or preference applies before claiming it.

Prepare the documents the announcement requests, which may include orders, marriage documentation, transcripts or professional credentials. Upload personal documents only through the official application system. Do not send them to this guide or an unverified recruiter.

Federal employment does not promise a transfer at your next post. Ask about mobility and remote policies separately. Keep applying elsewhere while an application is pending.

05

Your resume, with free help

Federal résumés now have a two-page limit. USAJOBS says it will not allow applicants to upload or build a résumé longer than two pages. The standard took effect September 27, 2025. Follow the current official résumé instructions, checked October 25, 2026.

Keep a tailored private-sector version and a federal version that satisfies the announcement within the limit. Include relevant dates, experience and any required hours-per-week, education or credential details. Use truthful examples showing the required skills; copying keywords does not establish qualification.

Book a review with ERP or a SpouseWorks coach. Include relevant volunteer work and training accurately. Explain a PCS gap briefly; do not present household responsibilities as paid employment or invent qualifications.

Careers that survive a PCS

BEFORE THE NEXT SET OF ORDERS

Three checks for a portable career.

  1. Credential

Can you practice in the destination state?

  2. Employer or clients

Will the role or client relationship continue after the move?

  3. Household

Will the hours, care arrangements and costs still work?

Use these questions to compare options. This is a planning framework, not a statistical ranking of careers.

A license is not automatically cleared by moving. The Justice Department explains current SCRA professional license portability, including an application process and conditions. Use its 2025 update and contact the destination licensing authority for your exact profession. Compact-covered licenses may follow different rules. Seek military legal assistance if you encounter a portability problem.

For Georgia employment, confirm the appropriate professional board’s process; teaching has its own certification authority. If you plan to work across the river in South Carolina, check that state too. Living in Georgia does not settle licensing for an SC workplace.

07

Remote work, without the hype

Remote is a work arrangement, not a promise that you can work anywhere or provide childcare during paid hours. Confirm approved states, time zone, core hours, equipment, internet requirements and PCS notice rules in writing.

Check the company’s original careers page before sharing documents. Never pay a recruiter to unlock a job, deposit an equipment check and forward money, or buy gift cards for an employer. A text-only interview and an offer that bypasses normal verification deserve scrutiny. Use the FTC’s job-scam guidance.

Treat contract income and employee benefits separately when comparing offers. The budget tool below is a planning calculation, not a tax or take-home-pay estimate.

PLAN THE HOUSEHOLD CHANGE

What does the job add before taxes?

Compare average monthly gross wages with your additional childcare and commute costs. Example inputs are editable assumptions, not local wage or childcare estimates.

MONTHLY GROSS LESS ENTERED COSTS$1,040

$1,560 gross wages − $400 childcare − $120 commuting.

Uses 52 weeks ÷ 12 months. Excludes taxes, benefit deductions, unpaid time, other work expenses and changes to household benefits. A negative result means the entered costs exceed gross wages. This is not take-home pay or tax advice. Nothing is submitted or saved.

Build the full picture with our CSRA cost-of-living guide and district school calendars.

Local employers worth knowing

These links lead to official hiring resources, not a claim that a specific role is open or reserved for spouses. Use our CSRA employers guide for regional context rather than comparing stale workforce headcounts.

Paying for training: SpouseWorks, formerly MyCAA

The official SpouseWorks Scholarship benefit page describes up to $4,000 for eligible licenses, certifications, associate degrees and qualifying continuing education. Current wording includes qualifying spouses across all ranks and pay grades; duty-status and program conditions still apply. A service member’s rank alone does not establish eligibility.

Use the scholarship portal and career coaching to confirm your individual eligibility, the specific program and approval before committing money. Do not assume a whole college, bachelor’s degree or every course qualifies. Ask who pays, which costs are covered and what happens if orders interrupt the course.

A useful training decision has three parts: the credential is required or valued in real target announcements, it can be completed on your household’s timeline, and its funding has been confirmed. Avoid buying a course solely because it advertises military-spouse funding.

10

If your household is transitioning: TAP

For service-member transition resources, start with Fort Gordon TAP. Ask the program which workshops spouses can attend and confirm the current location and schedule directly. Spouse-specific coaching and employment support can run alongside the service member’s transition plan.

Connect the job search with the newcomer checklist, school calendars and your household cost-of-living plan. Military family dental enrollment is another separate setup task; use the TRICARE dental guide.

FAQ

Where should I start after a PCS to Fort Gordon?

Contact ERP at 706-791-3579, arrange a résumé review and choose a target role. Use SpouseWorks for portable career support and USAJOBS for federal opportunities. Confirm childcare and the commute alongside the job search.

How long should my federal resume be?

USAJOBS enforces a two-page limit. Follow the announcement and current USAJOBS résumé guidance, including required experience and credential details. The old advice to submit a long federal résumé is outdated.

Does military spouse status guarantee a federal job?

No. Noncompetitive appointment eligibility and spouse preference are different mechanisms. Each has conditions, and the actual announcement determines who can apply and which documents are required. Contact the agency about your circumstances.

Is MyCAA now called SpouseWorks?

Yes. The SpouseWorks Scholarship, formerly MyCAA, offers eligible spouses up to $4,000 for qualifying education and credentials. Current eligibility extends across ranks and pay grades, subject to program conditions. Confirm your plan before enrolling.

Is remote work automatically portable to the next duty station?

No. Employers may restrict states, overseas locations and working hours. Ask for relocation approval and permitted work locations in writing before relying on the job for a future move.

Where can I verify hiring-event details?

Check the organizer directly. DAV’s November calendar lists a national virtual fair on November 24, 2026. Confirm registration, time zone and access instructions there; this guide does not maintain a live vacancy or event feed.
